At the National Youth Workers Convention, we stopped youth workers from all across the U.S. and asked them to share a 10-second youth ministry tip.

The 10-Second Tip:

Always maintain consistent relationships with your students.

My added thoughts:

Consistency is key to building trust with your students, it helps them know that you really do care about them, and it communicates how much you value them. Here are 3 ways to intentionally be consistent in the lives of students:

1) Be consistent with your presence.

Show up in their life on a regular basis outside of the church walls.

2) Be consistent with your word.

If you say that you’re going to do something, then do it. If you can’t do it, be honest about why you can’t do it.

3) Be consistent with your actions.

Don’t expect a student to do something that you’re not willing to do. Build up the same spiritual disciplines in your own life that you encourage students to build.
