TreeHouse’s approach to ministry is unique.
We’re a youth ministry conceived by a school teacher, informed by mental health professionals and soaked with the love of Christ.
We do ministry and train others to do ministry in order to reach lost teens across the country.
At Our Sites
Our ministry sites consist of a combination of paid staff and volunteers who run three core programs: Support Groups, Growing Deeper and One to One Mentoring.
Support Group
Our support group model was developed from a mental health perspective and based on the established principles of the power of peer support. It is here that the students forge deep friendships, learn to express themselves, find grace for their mistakes and experience empathy.
The gospel permeates everything we do. However, we don’t overtly talk about God at this program. Because of this approach, we have built strong relationships with schools, social workers and local communities. They are excited to send teens to a program that offers caring support in a safe, nonjudgmental environment.
Going Deeper
On the surface, this looks similar to a church youth group with games, teaching and hangout time. But if you dig a little deeper, you’ll see that everything from our teaching topics to our crowd control tactics create a carefully curated experience for the at-risk population. We focus on bridging the gap between the truth found in Scripture and the teens’ dire circumstances.
One to One Mentoring
Once a teen engages in our program, they are assigned a highly trained staff or volunteer mentor. Our mentors meet teens with the love and grace of God. Teens feel heard and cared for like never before. Our staff balances their time with teens with listening, teaching truth and having fun.
The TreeHouse Model
As a data-driven organization, we have worked with professional research firms to validate the effectiveness of our programs. The research shows that TreeHouse has a positive effect on the lives of the teens we serve in the following areas:
- Reducing at-risk behaviors
- Building healthy relationships with God, self, and others
- Graduating high school
- Pursuing an educational or vocational track for their future
With the vision to reach every at-risk teen and the knowledge that our programs are empirically transformational, we developed a growth model that empowers local churches and nonprofits to reach the teens in their community.
Once a leader is identified, we take them through an intense training process where they learn the TreeHouse model of ministry. Then we release and empower that leader to activate members of their community to join the ministry. When a leader and motivated crew of volunteers is trained, they launch TreeHouse programming.
After doing ministry with at-risk teens for over 30 years, we know it’s tough and can’t be done alone. Support is essential to success. We provide our partners with resources that include advanced training, extensive curriculum, a community of like-minded ministers and a TreeHouse expert to help them every step of the way.
We are passionate about seeing lives in every community across the country transformed through the love of Christ.
